A Love Letter

Love owns one holiday, but giving these works of art will remind your Valentine of your love all year long. Cassie Barney’s Ex Votos are created in recognition of life being an ongoing series of miracles. And surely love is one of the grandest them of all. Each Ex Votos is a fine art offering commissioned as the result of an answered prayer and displayed to acknowledge gratitude for it having happened. For the celebration of love, they are the perfect gift at the perfect time.

Both A Love Letter and My Valentine are styled with the look of the tin-paneled works found in shrines across Mexico and can be hung alone, together or with the other Ex Votos. “These little artworks are painted out of gratitude for the miracles, protection and prayers answered not only in my life, but for many of us,” says artist Cassandra Barney. “In conceiving these, it didn’t seem that I was illustrating an idea, but sharing and exchanging one. It is a chance to savor that feeling and say ‘thank you’ for letting me experience the miracle of love.”

Love is what the heart can hold and each of these Ex Votos embraces this exceptional yet familiar emotion with beauty and grace. Send A Love Letter that will be written anew every time she looks upon it. Or let a cherub of love visit daily with My Valentine. True love is an answered prayer, let her know you feel that way, too.

Grace

Angels are wonderful beings of power and light who defy the laws of nature, death and gravity,” says James Christensen. “I prefer to often paint angels as beautiful winged women. The feminine side of human nature communicates angelic qualities –peace, encouragement, support and unconditional love. The inclination or tendency to help or do good for others we get from our mothers.

“Christmas, beneath all its wrapping, is a yearly reminder that through learning to be better people we attain a manner of godliness. It’s important that as people we do our best with the gifts we are given: with our bodies, our minds and our hearts. Grace’s heavenly message is that kindness and goodwill are gifts of the spirit that keep us on the proper path. This is a thank you painting for the angels in my life, and for the feeling that I am not alone. We all have angels watching over us, and maybe a couple of fish for good measure.  A little magic can't hurt.”

The Golden Ball

“Once upon a time . . . .” The inspiration for this mysterious beauty in the wood comes from the classic fairy tale The Frog Prince wherein the most beautiful princess in the land loses her little gold ball down a well and promises a frog he can be her dearest companion if only he retrieves the it. To make this short story shorter, he does and she reneges on her promise until her father, the king, seizing the opportunity of a teaching moment, makes her keep her promise. The lovely princess holds her nose to befriend the frog but after a few days, she actually does like her new friend and kisses him. He turns into the prince he was before a witch cast a spell on him and the two live happily ever after.

Foremost fantasy artist James C. Christensen captures the precise moment of truth where the delicate fingertips of the princess holds her most precious object and contemplates the cost of keeping it, against the cost of sharing her love with the world. Luckily for that frog, she made the right choice.
