Benediction

The words coming out of this angel’s mouth are purposely provocative and designed to make you wonder “What does that mean?” It’s Latin, beatus est pisciculus, meaning “Blessed is the little fish.” Floating fish symbolize the magic all around us and they are blessed little things themselves, to bring this magic into our lives. Is the angel blessing the fish or the fish blessing the angel? The fish is a symbol I frequently use and this painting was meant as my “thank-you” for a lot of the magic in my life.

Christensen’s original painting is 36x48 inches. Our Anniversary edition is released in two sizes, a very limited quantity at a major-statement size of 40 x 30, and also at 24 x 18 inches. The blessing of Benediction works beautifully at either size.

Guardian In The Woods

That touch of enchantment is what makes a great painting a James Christensen. “As a fantasy artist,” he says, “I am fortunate to have such a broad range of icons to play with: Puffy Guys, mechanical things, beautiful women and floating fish. I can find a beautiful place in nature and paint it like a landscape painter but I get to keep going, to magic it up a bit.

“The Guardian in the Woods is a Mother Nature-type guy (I think the two may have been an item at one time). He is the strong, silent type, which is why you may not have heard of him. He watches over the woods and the all that lives there. Like Gandolf, we aren’t really sure if he’s mortal or not. He’s looks like a hermit and smells like one, too.

“The inclusion of the Guardian in this scene sends it into the realm of make believe. On a hike I found a white tree that had fallen down. Flowers that looked like bleached crepe paper were growing in the bushes around the trunk. ‘What a great painting this would make,’ I thought. I just had to figure out what to add and wait long enough for the right character to appear. Now he’s visible, but for just a moment, because with a quick tip of his hat he disappears again like Santa Claus.”

The Guardian in the Woods is a delicious landscape with Christensen magic. You can choose the 30" x 14" Fine Art Giclèe Canvas and frame it with nothing coming between you and this great piece of art. Or, you can frame the 27" x 12 1/2" Fine Art Giclèe Paper under glass. Either way, these rich James Christensen fine art editions are truly fantastic works of art.

Jonah

“Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights.” (Jonah 1:17) I have always loved the story of Jonah and the whale. When I read the scripture that said that the Lord had “prepared a great fish” to swallow the recalcitrant prophet, my imagination took off. If I were preparing a magical fish, it would be no ordinary whale or grouper! So I painted my version of Jonah’s special fish. The window is one way glass. The effect would be ruined if Jonah could see out!

Parables

What can we learn about compassion and forgiveness from the Parable of the Prodigal Son? What does the metaphor of the Good Shepherd teach us about integrity and leadership? Do the parables of Jesus really apply to us today? The imaginative art of James Christensen illuminates the parables taught in the New Testament by Jesus Christ. Twelve parables and four additional teaching stories are brought to life in this painting. See if you can find them all: Good Samaritan, Widow's Mites, Prodigal Son, Sower, Lost Coin, Good Shepherd, Pharisee and Publican, Importunate Friend, Rich Fool, Ten Virgins, Talents, Sheep and Goats, House Upon a Rock, Woman Taken in Adultery, Rich Man and Lazarus, and Gospel Net.

Sharing Our Light

James captivates us anew as he asks that we reflect on the virtue of sharing. "The light within each of us is a gift to share with others. I believe our talents grow when we share our experiences with friends, family, sweethearts, and especially the young. Like Everyman, you can also search for other thoughtful people and share your light with them." Published from the artist’s original acrylic painting.

Tempus Fugit (Time Flies)

"This is the look on my face when I glance up from painting and realize an entire afternoon has passed. I'm like the guy in the painting. Things always take more time than I think they will."

The Man In The Moon

The man in the moon

Looked out of the moon

And this is what he said,

“’Tis time that, now I’m getting up,

All babies went to bed.”

So goes the famous childhood nursery rhyme that inspired this brilliant confection by artist Scott Gustafson. This character climbs out of a moon that is chock full of navigational aides, along with his nocturnal companion. He just woke up and is checking to be sure all the little ones on Earth are tucked in for the night.

Maybe there’s a wee one under your roof who would love to doze off under his watchful eye or perhaps this limited edition will be your very unique gift to the expectant parents in your life.
